I'm just your average woman, comfortable in her life and in her own skin. I'm tall and scrawny and I laugh like a dork, and I'm the first one to tell you I'm not a morning person - in looks or in attitude. I have learned to be unafraid of making mistakes, and of taking chances. I tend to fight for the underdog, and I'm something of a pushover - when I want to be. I'm nice to just about everyone unless I have a reason - a genuine reason- not to be, and even then I'm still nice unless provoked. It's kind of a curse. I hack off my hair on a whim. I am horribly unfashionable but knowledgeable and extremely interested in fashion. The same goes for pop culture. No one knows better than I how very unhip I am, and I'm OK with that. I often turn aside companionship with people for companionship with books, something my friends don't necessarily appreciate but understand all the same. I don't need to be right all the time, but I sure do like to hear it when I am.
A few things I really appreciate:
Quick minds and quicker wits. The beauty of a well-turned phrase. Expansive vocabularies - used in the right context. Creativity and logic. Geek conversations. British humor. Executive transvestites. Dog owners. Glasses. A really smooth bourbon and a good pure vodka. Cigarettes and smokers. Music, in all forms except those shitty remixes they always play in clubs. Baseball games in the summer, basketball games in the winter. The way my mountains look driving home from work. Theater popcorn with extra butter. People who smile - and mean it. Being challenged, mentally. Winning arguments and debates.
A few things to which I violently object:
People who use big words without having the slightest idea what they mean. Fox News. Carelessness and casual dismissal. Rejection and disbelief. The view society has of teenagers, and the view teenagers project on themselves. Victims - don't let your circumstance define you. Cliches and stereotypes. Snobbery. Disrespect for family, for friends and for life itself. Grandstanders and braggarts. Black and white opinions - if it were black and white it would be fact. The anti-people; you know, anti-drinkers, anti-smokers, anti-religion, so on and so forth. Life is too short to rule anything out.
I generally believe that everyone has a goal in life. Mine is to be pleased with how I've lived it.
